Overview

Muslim Spain, late 9th century, early 10th century. While a flamboyant culture blossoms before the eyes of the West, an unprecedented uprising engulfs Al-Andalus.

Leading the insurgents is Ibn Hafsun, a figure as charismatic as he is unpredictable, a descendant of the Visigoths and a declared opponent of the Arab aristocracy that holds all the power.

For several decades, his uprising shakes Muslim Spain to its core and upends the destinies of those who cross his path.

Surrounding him are characters marked by passion, loyalty, and inner conflict: Kalam, a rebellious intellectual torn between love and her convictions; Nasir, commander of the emir’s guard; and Inga, the Viking warrior we met in La Princesse Barbare, now on a quest to find her kidnapped children.

As religious and political tensions intensify around the Mediterranean, individual destinies are faced with forces beyond their control.
